Jonker Walk (Tourist Market)

Jonker Walk, also known as Jalan Hang Jebat is a shopping paradise bliss for antique collectors and bargain hunters. Here is where authentic artifacts and relics, some over 300 years old can be found amid a host of interesting collectibles. Take your time to learn about the local trade shops, antique galleries, clan houses and even learning the history of a mausoleum that line the street.

Jonker Walk is only held during every Friday to Sunday starting from late evening from 19:30 to 23:30. There are loads of stalls being set up along the street, not too mention, a variety of mouth-watering local foods. (For further details on Antiques, Go to Antiques page)

Street Cuisine

Abundance of food can be found widely regardless of the time. During the day, go for the coffee shops that sell satay, wan tan mee and ice kacang. They are popular Jonker landmarks as they have been here for a very long time. Stalls set up during the night market from Friday to Sunday evenings sell traditional cookies and 'kuih' (cakes) like pineapple tarts and 'onde-onde' (coconut hoppers or flour balls rolled in coconut and filled with palm sugar syrup). Meat dumplings, Chinese dessert soups, cendol and even fried ice-cream make for a gastronomic street feast.

Wooden Ware

Wooden ware such as lampshades, key chains, photo frames, bags and sandals crafted from rattan, screwpine and bamboo are simple and practical gifts for friends and family and can be found in abundance in Jonker Walk. Do practice your bargain skills in dealing with the sellers, and who knows you might be luck as at times, they will be generously to give you free gifts or even offer you such a low price.

Collectibles & Other Memorabilia

Collectibles such as card games, records, black and white photographs, soft drink cans and bottles, post cards, stamps and first day covers that are on sale at street stalls and in several shops attract both the young and old, bringing back memories when these collectibles were expensive to buy.
